I started this blog in late 2008, it took me a few articles to get 100 views for the first time, you wouldn’t believe how excited I was. Since then I have written about 200 posts and can now get around 1,000 visitors per day.
The site has gained a lot of viewers since 2008 and I have been amazed by both the quantity and quality of people who regularly read the blog. Often writing is quite one-way and although I know an article is well received by the viewing figures I would love to here more from all of you!
So if you a lurker, someone who regularly reads this blog but has never introduced yourself or said hi – please drop a comment below. Let me know where in the world you are from and what sport or stage you are at with your analysis.
Hi Rob
I have been following your blog for a quite a while now.. I am from India. I analyse football (soccer) and tennis. I worked for a professional football club last season as a volunteer in their analyst team.. Its pretty new in india .
Your blog has helped me alot and has answered simple query likes, what kind of camera to buy, what needs to be there in analyst kit.
Also follow ur video interviews..
Regards
Naveen
Hey Naveen – great to hear from you.
Thanks for leaving a comment.
Hi Naveen, I’m also from India. Working as an administrative assistant and an assistant football coach. I’m trying to work my way into analysis (through studies/ internships). But finding it difficult to understand and find opportunities. Is it possible to connect with you on any other social platform?
Thank you Rob for helping me find someone from my country.
I’m following you blog since you’re providing this e-book. I like your blog. You have some interesting posts. They helped us (the company I’m working for) to made our, sadly little known, video analysis software (utilius fairplay 5) a bit better.
Oh and I’m from Germany.
Best regards
Christian
Hi Christian – great to hear from you. Does your software cover all sports?
It’s not easy being involved with software – very hard for people to see the big difference between them all.
Hi Rob, thanks for your interest.
Our software is usable in many sports. It’s is more like a toolbox with nice features you need for individual sports and team sports like measuring or tagging scenes. You can find more infos about the software on videoanalysis-for-sports.com. There is also a free lite version of the software. Then it’s just a videoplayer to compare to videos.
We are always searching for partners worldwide to improve the program. So if you have more questions or ideas, feel free to ask.
Best wishes,
Christian

Hey Rain,
Good to hear from you. Not easy on your own I’m sure – glad you have been on the site for a few years.
If you ever want to chat about PA just drop me a line.
HI, thank you for the answer. Will certainly write you a longer letter when busy times will be over. In about one month.
Follow you on most platforms and responded and interacted a few times.
But for everyone else, Hey, I’m Carl. Working within the Womens National game and support Analysis at a University.

Hi Rob, Mike Aughey here. Working mainly with club rugby and some schools rugby here in Ireland. First got involved in use of video in coaching after meeting Keith Lyons and then Mike Hughes. Still learning
Hi Rob, I’ve been lurking for the past couple of years. Discovered you via Tristan an analyst working for hockey Ireland when I was on tour with the Canadian mens team in Argentina. Thanks for the ton of great information thats really useful and gets the hamster running. I’m a volunteer thats now hooked on playing with sportscode scripting. Its obscene what you can do with a overlap, if and rename. Ohh awwee eeeee, phew. Ok that wasn’t so bad after all.
Hi Rob, been a lurker for around a year now. Big fan of the blog have applied for a number of roles advertised on the site but been unsuccessful doing analysis for Northumbria, Newcastle and Durham university sports programmes. Keep up the good work on the blog!
Hi Rob, found the site about a year ago and been reading ever since. Currently doing a sport coaching degree as well as interning at Norwich City’s academy, only filming games at the moment but hopefully there may be some progression down the line. Its a start at least! Really appreciate the work you do on the site, definitely played a role in getting me really interested in performance analysis.
Hi Rob,
I was introduced to your website through my Performance Analysis lecturer Mr Adam Hewitt, and I must say thank you for your articles because I have learned a lot through reading your articles and watching your interviews with Ravi from Seattle and the performance analyst from Bolton. I recently started an internship at Adelaide United F.C with the youth team. You have helped foster an interest for myself in Performance analyst, and I thank you for that as I have enjoyed this area so far!
Hello Rob, I am judo coach of two teams in São Paulo (Brazil). I have tried to deepen my knowledge of performance analysis in recent years, which turned into a master degree project which I’m currently working at the University of São Paulo. In my work I monitor training loads (daily), physical performance (weekly) and the technical and tactical performance of athletes (in all competitions). For technical and tactical analysis, I use a specific program to combat modalities to quantify the actions taken in the fighting. I really like your blog because it always brings us relevant information. Also, often I look at the jobs session … maybe one day there is an interesting opportunity for an judo’s analyst 🙂 Congratulations!
Hi Rob, Just started on the MSc in PA down in Carlow. Really enjoying the articles, keep them coming!
Hey Gordon (and Rob!!).. I’m new to the site, have read a few of the posts before but just getting the time now to go through the site. I’m a final year Sport Science student in Carlow, away on placement in Sweden at the moment where we I will be doing some video analysis of Skiers and Ice hockey so this site is great to get up and running. I’m interested in going on to the PA MSc in Carlow or Cardiff when I finish, just wondering what you think of it so far Gordon and if you think it is worthwhile?? Thanks!
Hi Paul. The course has been fantastic so far. Its very comprehensive and a great balance between theory and practical application. I had some experience of PA on my undergraduate degree but that was back in 1998 so its moved on considerably since then. I would highly recommend it.
Thanks Gordon! Sounds great, I’ll have to look into it in more detail soon. Out of interest, what lecturer(s) do you have most contact with?
Hi Rob,
I’m Fernando from Portugal and I’m following your blog since 2 years ago since we started our own Performance and Video Analysis company, Videobserver.
I keep visiting you blog as it provides me a nice perspective on the needs and problems of video analysts, helping us focusing on what’s important.
If I remember well, we already talked in the past about including Videobserver on a software list you build and also on you giving it a try (but I don’t believe you had the time to do it).
Regards and keep the good work.
Fernando
Hi Rob,
I am a youth football coach and senior performance analyst in Algarve (Portugal). I’m in touch with your blog since i completed the level 1 of Prozone Perfomance Analysis course. That occured when i asked my course colleagues by interesting articles and books about perfomance analysis. The response was exactly your blog. And here I am 1 year past.
What i most like here are real solutions for real problems of a performance analyst. I can see me in the most of the situations that you write.
Best regards,
Pedro Baião

Hi Rob, I’m currently at university studying sports coaching at Liverpool John Moores. Was introduced to Performance analysis last year through one of my lecturers. Managed to get a summer internship at Tring athletic fc. Finding all of this very interesting as I’ve been able to pinpoint what area of sport I’d like to go into. So thank you very much!
Hy Rob.I am Jose Luis. Actually, I am the videoanalyst of national teams of handball in Spain.
I follow your blog one years ago.
Congratulatios for your amazing work.

Hi Rob, I’m a Water Polo Coach from Hawaii. I was browsing for tip on using GameBreaker to improve our workflow efficiency. Stumbled across your website through links on twitter. Lots of interesting stuff. Thanks!

Hi Rob,
I live in Kent and having previously been a sports coach I have decided to turn my goals towards Performance Analysis. I am in my last year of my PE and Sport Science Degree and am looking for some form of experience or internship in PA having researched the roles and software used. I love the website and it really helps my understanding and hopefully is aiding my preparation for when/if that experience opportunity comes up. The jobs page is very helpful too as it gives one simple place to look for new opportunities.
Hey Rob,
Im from Australia, and have completed an undergrad Sports Science course there. Im currently doing a Masters of High Performance Sport online at ACU. Opportunities in peformance analysis are quite limited in Aus so have been following your website regularly for the past few months and applying for several jobs as I just got my UK passport, but so far unsuccessful. Looking at moving over next year which hopefully will help. I really enjoy the articles and trying to learn how to get myself involved in the industry so cheers!
