Reading FC Academy are offering a season-long work placement in partnership with the University of Worcester for the 2021/22 season. The purpose of the job is to work across Youth Development age groups (Under 9 – Under 16), whilst also offering additional support to the wider environment, with a focus on the Recruitment department, to promote the elite learning environment. The position requires a placement working on tasks as determined by the club and hours will fluctuate from week to week dependent on workload. In return, the club will cover the tuition fees of the MSc programme of study to be undertaken.

 

This role is to be combined with studying at University of Worcester on the MSc (Hons) Applied Sports Performance Analysis programme (http://worcester.ac.uk/journey/applied-sports-performance-analysis-msc.html). The course is specifically designed to enable you to develop the knowledge and skills required to work as a performance analyst in elite sport and combined with this placement opportunity, offers a high quality learning experience to prepare you for employment as a performance analyst. Main duties and responsibilities –

  • Deliver performance analysis support to the Under 9 – Under 14  players, coaches and staff. This may include training analysis, pre-match planning and post-match feedback/feedforward.
  • Support the Performance Analysis department in providing performance analysis support to the Under 12 – Under 14 players, coaches and staff. This may include training analysis, pre-match planning and post-match feedback/feedforward.
  • Produce phase-specific post-match reports for Youth Development Phase (Under 12 – Under 16) games programme.
  • Contribute to development of academy learning resources, including playing philosophy, coaching syllabus and best practice guides.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary support in line with individual learning plans.
  • Provide innovative, project-based exploratory analysis to broader academy programme.
  • Ensure production of relevant video materials to support the broader academy.
  • Liaise with all relevant staff, where appropriate, to ensure that information, relevant to duties, is communicated effectively.
  • Ensure player welfare is always the primary consideration.
  • Adhere to a strict code of confidentiality in respect of any information relating to Reading Football Club and its operation.
  • Be presentable at all times when working and demonstrate that you can represent the face of the club in the manner expected.
  • Maintain Reading Football Club’s Safeguarding (Child Protection), Health, Safety and Equal Opportunity procedures and practice.
  • Act in a manner that supports the Club’s Vision and Values at all times.
  • To adhere to a strict code of confidentiality in respect of any information relating to Reading Football Club and its operation
  • There is an expectation that you will undertake adhoc work on an exceptional basis or provide relevant cover for other team tasks

Essential Requirements –

  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field at 2:1 or above
  • At least 1 year’s experience providing performance analysis support or data science within an sports environment
  • Experience handling data sets utilising relevant software packages (e.g. Microsoft Office, Apple iWorks)
  • Good working knowledge of performance analysis software packages (e.g. SportsCode, Hudl, CoachPaint)
  • Ability to communicate complex data to a variety of audiences
  • Data analysis skills on both Mac and Windows platforms
  • Interpersonal skills capable of fostering relationships across the organisation
  • Ability to work under pressure independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines
  • Positive approach to problem solving with a willingness to think innovatively
  • Drive for professional development and furthering of oneself and those around them
  • Willingness to work as part of a team towards broader organisational objectives

Desirable Skills –

  • Level 2 coaching qualification (any sport)
  • ISPAS accreditation
  • FA Talent ID Level 2
  • Experience providing performance analysis support or data science within football
  • Excellent presentation skills through a variety of methods
