2022/23 DIVERSIFYING SPORT PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS SCHOLARSHIP

Middlesex University in partnership with English Institute of Sport, Rugby Football Union, England and Wales Cricket Board, Lawn Tennis Association & The Football Association.

BACKGROUND
There is a clear under-representation of Black, Asian and people with other ethnically diverse backgrounds in full-time Sport Performance Analysis (SPA) positions within professional sport.

This ground-breaking scheme is the first of its kind in Sport and Exercise Sciences, particularly within Sport Performance Analysis. It was established in September 2021 and we are now inviting applications to participate in the 2022/23 Scholarship.

There is no research into the reasons for this, however likely
reasons include:

  • Small pool of graduates in SPA from diverse backgrounds
  • Barriers to participation in postgraduate courses
  • Lack of mentorship opportunities and employability support
  • Lack of skills development and training

The specific outcomes of this positive action scheme are:

  • Increase access and reduce barriers for students from Black, Asian and people with other ethnically diverse backgrounds to study on the MSc Sport Performance Analysis
  • Enhance the job prospects of MSc Sport Performance Analysis graduates from Black, Asian and people with other ethnically diverse backgrounds

To address the under-representation of Black, Asian and people with other ethnically diverse backgrounds specifically within SPA.
