Middlesex University in collaboration with Leicester City Football Club, are offering an exciting PhD studentship opportunity around the use and application of data analytics within an elite football environment. The candidate will be embedded within the Leicester City First Team under the direction of academic experts from Middlesex University and in conjunction with the Head of Football Analytics at the club.

- Inquisitive and willing to investigate objective sport performance data, holding the ability to use statistical methods in order to question subjective opinions and generate insights that aid in the analysis of performance. Good communicator who can translate difficult statistical concepts into simple concrete football examples.
- Undergraduate profile of minimum 2:1 in a Sports Science, Performance Analysis, Computer/Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or other STEM degree (including Psychology or other courses with strong statistical training).
- An appropriate Masters degree relevant to the studentship opportunity (i.e. Data/Computer Science, Sports Science, Sports Performance Analysis, Engineering, Mathematics or other STEM) is desirable. Where the applicant has no MSc degree they may be considered if they have a relevant undergraduate degree and have a track record of good quality public work or industry experience.
- Due to the nature of professional football, ideally the student would be based within easy commuting distance of LCFC Training Ground (Park Hill, LE12 7NG) and be expected to be at the club 3 days a week and weekends as needed (this will be flexible in line with government advice). Students must attend and complete PhD supervisory sessions and training as appropriate. As the Middlesex University campus is based in London, we are happy to discuss best options with regards to travel arrangements.
