MSc Sports Performance Analysis

This programme of study is designed for graduates seeking to develop specialist knowledge in Sports Performance Analysis.  The MSc Sports Performance Analysis programme is carefully aligned to employer needs and aims to provide the knowledge, skills and experience to successfully pursue a career in the area of Sports Performance Analysis.  The processes and theories underpinning performance analysis are explored, together with key practical competencies, all delivered in conjunction with a dedicated, intensive work placement offering invaluable industry relevant experience.

Course tuition fees: £5510 (University of Chichester alumni are eligible for a 10% discount).

The work placement will take place at a Premier League football club.  The two successful candidates will each receive £650 per calendar month for the duration of the placement.

Performance Analysis Work Placement


The role runs alongside the MSc Sports Performance Analysis at the University of Chichester, and is under the guidance of the club’s Head of Performance Analysis. The role assists the Performance Analysts in supporting the needs of the First Team during training, pre-match preparations, match day analysis and post-match analysis.


1.  To ensure all first team training sessions are recorded to meet the needs of the Performance Analysis department and First Team Coaching staff

2.  Film matches home and away for the first team and other ages groups at the club

3.  Support the production of post match reports in accordance with the club’s Performance Analysis philosophy

4.  Help update in-house database for player technical and physical match performances

5.  Help update video databases e.g. goals and set piece databases

6.  Support First Team Performance Analysts with pre match analysis protocols

7.  Attend Performance Analysis department meetings and in-service events

8.  Any ad hoc duties as requested by Management.

roslynRosslyn Park is pleased to offer two part-time work experience placements within the Rugby Department assisting the Performance Analyst. This is a voluntary placement with the applicant gaining experience of filming and coding within a semi-professional sporting environment, along with developing key skills required to work as a performance analyst within a practical setting. We will offer full training and support throughout the internship and the breadth of practical experiences to offer the successful applicant an invaluable start to their career in performance analysis. The successful candidate will work with the senior squad during the 2016/17 season.

The Role:

The internship will require the successful applicant to complete 8-10 hours minimum per week including Saturdays (both home and away fixtures) from late June 2016 – April 2017.

Senior Performance Analyst – Pathway Development Rugby Football Union

pgirWorking within the International Player Development Department (Pathway) of the RFU, the post holders primary role and responsibilities will be providing and managing world leading Performance Analysis support to all the England age group teams and RFU National Academy. The post-holder will also manage a team of 3-4 analysts who will work in age groups throughout the Pathway.

Job Overview

Working under the direction of the Head of International Player Development the post holder will provide pertinent information to effectively help measure and monitor the performance and progression of age group and National Academy players through the pathway and ensure they are aligned with the playing requirements of the Senior team.

The post-holder must have a proven track record of engaging with international rugby coaches and sports science staff and be confident working across a range of areas such as player performance plans, developing performance monitoring protocols, reporting, integration and collection and manipulation of multiple data sets as well as having direct experience of managing a team of analysts in professional sport and preferably with experience at international rugby level.

The post-holder will operate under a matrix management system reporting to Head of International Player Development as an operational head and Michael Hughes as functional head (PGIR Limited).

As well as undertaking his/her primary duties as a Senior Performance Analyst and ensuring that the delivery of the Performance Analysis service effectively meets it’s commitment to coaches and players, the post-holder in consultation and agreement with all pathway coaches and managers will continue to develop analysis tools and systems to assist in the identification, prediction and monitoring process for age group and National academy players.

Exeter University Rugby Club are currently recruiting for work place students for season 2016 / 2017 within the Performance Analysis department. This is an exciting opportunity for College / University students or even those who are in full or part time employment to come in and assist with Performance Analysis duties on a flexible basis.
