University of Derby

Leicester City Football Club (LCFC) is providing a full bursary award toward fees for a
University of Derby MRes study as part of an ongoing relationship between Derby
University Sport and Exercise Science and LCFC.
In this unique opportunity the successful candidates will support the performance
analysis and coaching team under the supervision of the Head of Academy Sport
Science and Lead Academy Performance Analyst in the collection of data to support
the MRes project and answer a performance question specific to the LCFC
Academy Performance Plan. Contact time on the MRes and with LCFC will be
approximately 30 hours per week but may include weekend and unsociable hours.
Subsequently, LCFC will contribute a full fee bursary to the students MRes fees.
The studies, which will be guided by LCFC Academy Performance Analysis section, will
run from August 2017 to June 2018 and aims to examine how performance statistics
and video footage are used in a professional football environment. There are a range of
topics available for investigation and this would be decided in conjunction with the
successful applicant, lead performance analyst and MRes supervisory team. These may
include identifying technical drill classification, matchday positional requirements and
individual / age specific learning objective classification as part of the ongoing Premier
League Elite Player Performance Plan requirements.
The project will involve routine data capture, coding and presentation to football players
of various age groups using notational analysis software programs. A comprehensive
CPD program -both internal and external if appropriate- will be available encompassing
the use of specific performance analysis software and strategies for data presentation.
The CPD program is expected to require additional hours.
