Game Analysis & Scouting Course – University of Murcia

The UK has dominated the market of Performance Analysis courses in Europe, so I thought it would be a good idea to feature some new courses. Below is a quick outline of the first year of the Game Analysis and Scouting Course at the University of Murcia, written by José Daniel Alfonso Martínez. You can learn much more about the course here; http://posgradoscouting.com

It’s been our first year of the Course on Game Analysis and Scouting in Team Sports at University of Murcia. Our aim is to contribute on the professionalisation of Performance Analysis and Scouting in Spain, providing both Analysts and Scouts the methodology to enhance the performance of their teams.

Quality over quantity is prioritised; the course is planned to satisfy the needs and situations a future Analyst or Scout will face. Therefore, there are only 10 to 15 places available per year.

Stats lecture

It is directed towards students of Sports Sciences, Scouts, Analysts, Coaches and Fitness Trainers who want to have a better understanding on how to analyse the game and players. The duration of the course is from October to February; then students can enjoy voluntary work experiences with professional clubs that University of Murcia offers.

Tableau

It combines theory and practice, with both Lectures from professors from Universities of Madrid, Granada, Wisconsin (USA), Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (Portugal) and Murcia, but also with prestigious Managers as Juan Ignacio Martinez (129 matches in La Liga), or analysts and scouts from first teams and academies of different sports (Real Madrid C.F., Rugby Spanish National Team, Sunderland A.F.C, Levante U.D., Real Sociedad, Estudiantes Basketball Team, Volleyball analysts…).

The content of the course is organised into the following modules:

  • Perspectives and Background as Part of a Multidisciplinary Team,
  • Applied Tools to Performance Analysis and Scouting,
  • Analysis of Data,
  • Coaching and Communication of Feedback

Live coding

The lectures are given in an intensive schedule: 2 weekends per month – 12 hours each weekend it takes place. The reason for this is to facilitate people far from Murcia to attend. Additionally, students are required to self-study and work from home.
